About the Role

Our client seeks a visionary Lead Mechanical Engineer to spearhead complex projects from a remote setting, supporting their operations originating in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. This senior leadership role requires driving the mechanical engineering strategy, mentoring a team of engineers, and ensuring the successful execution of critical development initiatives. You will be responsible for architectural decisions, technical guidance, and fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of advanced mechanical systems and products from conceptualization to production.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of mechanical engineers, fostering skill development and project success.
• Oversee the creation and validation of complex mechanical designs using advanced simulation and analysis techniques.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across R&D, product management, and manufacturing to align on technical roadmaps and project priorities.
• Define and implement engineering best practices, standards, and processes for the mechanical engineering function.
• Conduct critical design reviews and make key architectural decisions for mechanical systems.

Requirements

• PhD or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 3 years in a lead or management role.
• Extensive experience with complex mechanical design, analysis (FEA, CFD), and validation.
• Demonstrated success in leading engineering teams and managing large-scale projects.
• Proven ability to thrive in a remote work environment, demonstrating strong self-management and communication skills.
• Expertise in project planning, risk management, and technical decision-making.
