Senior Bridge Engineer - Remote

About the Role

Our client, a renowned engineering consultancy with a global reach, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Bridge Engineer to join their exclusively remote team. You will be responsible for the conceptualization, design, and oversight of new bridge construction and rehabilitation projects, ensuring adherence to the highest engineering standards and client expectations. We are looking for a leader who can bring innovative design solutions and extensive experience to our client's projects, specifically contributing to advancements in transportation infrastructure, even while based remotely and supporting operations related to Klerksdorp.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design and analysis of various bridge types (e.g., concrete, steel, composite) for new construction and rehabilitation projects.
• Develop detailed design calculations, drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Utilize advanced bridge engineering software (e.g., MIDAS Civil, CSiBridge, LUSAS) for complex modeling and analysis.
• Conduct feasibility studies, concept development, and preliminary design for bridge projects.
• Perform structural assessments and load ratings for existing bridges.
• Ensure designs comply with national and international bridge design codes (e.g., AASHTO, SARTS).
• Collaborate effectively with project managers, clients, government agencies, and other engineering disciplines in a remote setting.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior bridge engineers.
• Review contractor submittals, respond to RFIs, and provide construction support as needed.
• Manage project timelines and budgets for the bridge engineering components of larger infrastructure projects.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural or Bridge Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA.
• A minimum of 10 years of dedicated experience in bridge engineering design and project management.
• Extensive experience with advanced bridge analysis and design software.
• Proven experience in managing the design and delivery of significant bridge projects.
• In-depth knowledge of bridge construction techniques and materials.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and a creative approach to engineering challenges.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities, essential for remote collaboration.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet stringent deadlines.
• Experience with seismic design and retrofitting of bridges is a plus.
