Lead Structural Engineer

For an international engineering and consultancy organisation active in the Mission Critical Facilities and Data Centre industry, R-inhouse Recruitment is looking for an experienced Lead Structural Engineer to strengthen the structural engineering team in Frankfurt. In this role, you will work on complex and technically demanding data centre projects in Germany, working closely with international clients, contractors, consultants and multidisciplinary engineering teams. You will have a leading technical role within structural engineering and will be involved in projects where reliability, technical quality, constructability and compliance with German standards are essential.

Your role

As Lead Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for the structural engineering of complex data centre projects and will work closely with other engineering disciplines.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Performing structural calculations for complex steel, concrete and timber structures;
• Developing and reviewing structural designs in cooperation with consulting engineers and other disciplines;
• Solving complex technical issues and responding to client and project-related queries;
• Reviewing calculations, drawings and technical documentation;
• Participating in meetings with clients, contractors and other project stakeholders;
• Coordinating structural engineering activities with internal teams and external parties;
• Ensuring that structural designs comply with applicable German DIN standards and regulations;
• Monitoring technical quality, project requirements and agreed budgets;
• Supporting the delivery of projects from design through to execution;
• Managing project-related administration, documentation and archiving;
• Contributing your expertise to the further development of structural engineering solutions within the Mission Critical Facilities team.

The projects

You will be working on Mission Critical Facilities, primarily large-scale data centre projects in Germany.

Data centres require a level of engineering expertise that goes well beyond conventional building projects. Structural solutions need to combine technical performance, resilience, constructability, efficiency and long-term reliability.

You will work within a multidisciplinary environment involving specialists in areas such as:

• Structural and Civil engineering
• Electrical engineering
• Mechanical engineering
• Building services
• Architecture
• Fire safety
• Controls and automation
• Security
• Construction and projectmanagement

This integrated way of working allows you to contribute to technically challenging projects and collaborate with specialists from different disciplines and countries.

What you bring

We are looking for a senior structural engineering professional who combines strong technical expertise with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.

You have:

• A master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline;
• At least 7 years of relevant professional experience in Germany;
• Extensive experience with structural design and engineering within a German consultancy or engineering environment;
• Strong knowledge of German DIN standards and structural regulations;
• Experience with 3D structural calculation and design software;
• Experience working with complex steel, concrete and/or timber structures;
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
• The ability to communicate effectively with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams;
• Fluency in German and English;
• A willingness to travel occasionally in connection with projects and international collaboration.

Experience within the data centre, Mission Critical Facilities, industrial or other highly complex technical environments is highly valued.
